Day 1

Today I started my internship at 11.00am here in the London Office of the North American Sports Network. I am in an office with 5 to 6 people while the rest of the operation is based in Dublin. Out of this office is where all the marketing and advertising comes. Today I spent some time reading some more about the company, running errans for the office such as making key copies and getting milk for tea (fun stuff eh?). Aside from the running around, I got a start on my first project which is a weekly newsletter that will go out to all the cusomer service call centers so they have a heads up on what is showing that week for when subscribers call in. So far so good I think.

London Update 07 January

Hallo folks. Today was my first day at the North American Sports Network‘s London Office. The office is very small and only has a staff of 6-7 people including myself. The main office is in Dublin which I may get a chance to visit on a day trip should there be a need. The people at the office seem fun and I think part of my tasks will be running around doing things for the office such as making tea as I had to do this afternoon for a meeting. I had never made tea before so it was a learning experience never the less. The office couldn’t beleive that I had never made tea before which made a for a good laugh. In another intersting twist, several events this month that the NASN will be sponsoring are located in Minneapolis, MN. How funny would it be if I was to travel back home to cover an event? Intersting thought I guess. The commute to work isn’t too bad. I get on one underground train and ride it up about 8 stops before changing to another line for one stop and then walk a block or two. Total travel time is roughly 45 minutes (my iPod is for sure getting a work out this trip).

Tomorrow I head in to work at 09.00 and then will meet up with my cousin Christopher around 17.30 for dinner while he is in London. Wow, have I been here a week? Man does time fly. Not sure on the weekend plans yet but thena gain, it is only Wednesday evening. Might do something with Christopher or with my Eckerd College friends or even both. Peter and Pam Bertrand arrive back home on Sunday so I will finally no longer be on my own per say in London.

Internship Description

Well, I start tomorrow. I will be working for the North American Sports Network (NASN), a subscription television service similar to ESPN, in their sales and marketing departments. Specific projects/duties in the sales department include coordinating production and distribution of sales materials to key commercial organizations such as pubs, bars and hostel that would fit a match to NASN. In the marketing department, specific duties include assisting with press releases, marketing research, and creating tailored schedules/marketing for a specific magazine or purpose.

London Update 06 January

Well, I am all set to begin my internship in the morning at 11:00. Today I am pretty knackered after walkingall over town with my frineds from Eckerd. Mostly just walking around and shopping since most of them just arrived. Doing some wash now and then settling in for an early night. got to catch this new reality show on Channel 4 over here called ‘Shattered‘. This show has a cash prize of £100,000 for the person that survives a week with out sleep. There are 12 or so to beginwith but each night, they eliminate people. Yea it’s another reality show but it’s funny at the same time. Well, that’s all for now.

London Update 05 January

Well, it was another cloudy/drizly day here in London. This morning I ventured back over to the West End and Gower Street to visit Sylvia, the housekeeper and the Eckerd College House, and some friends that arrived last night and this morning for the winter term. Took them around the town a little to show them what was around the Eckerd house so they could explore more. After walking around and ending up Big Ben and Westminster Abby, we returned to the Eckerd house for a little relaxation before I departed and headed to the Science Museum for the second time to catch the Lord of the Rings Exhibition. The exhibitionw as cool because it showed a lot of the props, costumes, and technology involved in making the tales come to life. It was goodi n my opinion but the tickets could have been a little less pricy in my mind. One more day to relax and cruise the town before I start my internship on Wednesday. I’m actually looking forward to starting work so I have something new to do.

London Update 02 January

I arrived in to London Heathrow at about 22:40 and by the time I got my baggage and through customs, it was 23:15. Caught the Heathrow Express in to Paddington Station and than caught a taxi to Badminton Mews where I am staying. I arrived and got all settled in around 00:30 before crashing for the evening. Slept in a little bit this morning before exploring London again. I went over to the West End to visit the Eckerd College house and then just cruised around Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus before returning to the Docklands to explore the Canary Wharf and Canning Town around the flat I am staying in. Got some food at the local supermarket and am now just relaxing for the evening watch the tele. Tomorrow I plan to head to the Science Museum and check out the Lord of the Rings exhibit that goes through this week. Internship doesn’t start until next week so I still have a few more days to just hang out and check out the town again. Cheers for now!
